YouTube is a massive online video watching platform which has enlightened the lives of many. It covers various topics from a range of categories. Some of them include entertainment, education, business, technology, finance, religion, spirituality, exercise hacks. Movie reviews, game reviews, and the list go on forever. However, not everyone in the world has the same attention span and many of us tend to get distracted as we may end up staying hooked watching videos for endless hours non-stop.

Watching YouTube is not a problem as long as it is not disturbing our daily routine.

If it creates a hassle by making us work less, then it becomes obligatory that we block the platform.

Because, even when we don’t want to, our subconscious mind somehow takes us to the platform and we may again find ourselves hooked watching YouTube. In short, it becomes a never-ending addiction.

There are three ways how you can permanently block YouTube from your computer without hassle.

  • Block YouTube on Your Computer Using a Browser
  • Restrict YouTube through Your Router Settings
  • Use Device Settings to Block YouTube on the iOS
  • Disable the YouTube App to Block YouTube on Android

Eager to learn about them? Let’s get started.

Block YouTube on Your Computer Using a Browser

Start by launching your Chrome Browser.

Why Chrome? Because Chrome offers a range of extensions that can help you optimize your browsing experience. Now, we will visit the extension section of Chrome and download a specific extension.

There is an extension called the “Block Site.”

Download the extension and activate it on your web browser.

This extension will allow you to block multiple websites including YouTube.

Simply install the extension on your web browser. You can activate the extension from the quick access icon located on the top right corner of your web browser screen. Toggle account to “ON.”

Now visit the website that you wish to block. In our case, it is YouTube.

Click on the shield icon in the quick access section. Now, simply click on the “Block this site” button.

You can also visit the “Block Site” dashboard and add as many websites as you want.

When you are done, you can exit the screen. Now, all the websites including YouTube are blocked.

Test whether the extension is working or not.

The premium option for the Block Site browser extension comes with “Uninstall Protection” option.

This option is rather interesting for those who want to block websites for employees or children.

Restrict YouTube Through Your Router Settings

Another interesting way to block YouTube on your computer is by restricting access to YouTube from your router settings.

Launch your Chrome web browser.

Now Enter the router IP Address of your Router in the URL Address Bar.

To find your IP number, go to Start > Settings > Network & Internet > View Your Network Properties.

Search for the option, “Default Gateway” and here you will find the address which you are looking for.

Here are some examples,

  • ASUS – 192.168.50.1
  • AT&T U-verse – 192.168.1.254
  • Belkin – 192.168.2.1
  • Comcast – 10.0.0.1
  • D-Link/NetGear – 192.168.0.1
  • Linksys – 192.168.1.1

Now, log into your router settings from your administrative account.

It will ask you for your username and password. Contact your ISP to provide you with the details.

When it comes to settings, each router has its own dashboard and a number of categories. Search for an option labeled “blocked websites,” or “URL filters,” or “Parental Controls.”

Here, you can add all the unwanted websites including YouTube to restrict it on all connected devices.

Exit the Browser and then start your browser again. Now try visiting the website.

You won’t be able to do it because it is permanently blocked.
